چکیده

This paper develops a pseudo-panel approach to examine household electricity demand behavior through the life cycle and its response income variations help strengthen energy policy-making process. Our empirical methodology is based on three rich independent microdata surveys (the National Housing Surveys), which are representative of French housing sector. The resulted sample covers 2006–2016 period. Using within estimations, this finds striking evidence that elasticity residential 0.22, averaged over our four cohorts generations. In light other works, estimate stands in lower range. results also show consumption follows an inverted U-shaped distribution as function age household’s head. Most notably, it appears households at mid-point their relatively largest consumers electricity. outcome has important implications for policy-making. Any public policy aimed reducing should consider differentiation according position cycle, therefore target priority highest level consumption.

Household Electricity Demand, Revisited

Recent efforts to restructure electricity markets have renewed interest in assessing how consumers respond to price changes. This paper develops a model for evaluating the effects of alternative tariff designs on residential electricity use. The model concurrently addresses several inter-related difficulties posed by nonlinear pricing, heterogeneity in consumer price sensitivity, and consumptio...

Household electricity demand estimation: a regression discontinuity design approach

Estimating electricity demand elasticity in different sectors has been an essential research topic. Considering the fact that pricing electricity in various countries does not follow the same rules, many econometrics methods have been developed to estimate this crucial parameter. Electricity demand elasticity is defined as the percent change in electricity consumption in response to one percent...

Price Reform and Household Demand for Electricity

This paper estimates a model of residential electricity demand to project the impact of proposed tariff changes on a representative sample of 130 Barbadian households. The results from the demand function suggest that the price elasticities of demand for particular appliances varied significantly, with households that utilize solar water heating being more price elastic than households that use...
